-Lesson Two: Virtue-
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, praise the name of the ever living God, the one and the only Jesus Christ, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, the Alpha and the Omega, the Great I Am. For he is worthy of all worship, glory, honor, and of praise.
FOR HE IS RISEN , and has forgiven me of all sins,
he has restored me to the right relationship to his Father,
THE GOD OF ABRAHAM , ISAAC , and JACOB ,
THE CREATOR OF HEAVEN AND EARTH .
Father, we pray that you would open the eyes of all those who do not yet know you as savior, that they would be able to see that they are in need and that you are the provider of all that we will ever need. But first and foremost let them see that they need a savior and that you too have also provided that in your only begotten son Jesus Christ. I pray that your convicting Holy Ghost would be present at this time bringing them to the bleeding side of our Lord Jesus who died for one and for all; that you would also anoint this message to bring greater and further understanding of your Holy Word to all who read this today........
AMEN!!!
To any who may be reading this page for the first time, we are in 2 Peter chapter 1. May I refer you first to the archives from the past 2 weeks not to have you to be lost as to what is being talked about. (See Archive Pages 11-12-05 & 11-19-05)
Now last week we talked about faith, and this week I would like to bring out the meaning of #2 Virtue
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Peter |
1 |
Simon Peter,
a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, |
¶ Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord. |
¶ According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: |
whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises; that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. |
And besides this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue, knowledge; |
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Keep in mind that all that we are learning is to bring us into a greater understanding of who Jesus is and just what it means to have Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
Virtue - moral goodness ; the practice of moral duties and the ABSTAINING from vice, or a conformity of life and conversation to the moral law.
In this sense, virtue may be, and in many instances must be, distinguished from religion. The practice of moral duties merely from motives of convenience, or from compulsion, or from regard to reputation, is virtue, as distinct from religion.
The practice of moral duties from sincere Love to God and his laws, is virtue and religion.
In other words Virtue is nothing but voluntary obedience to the truth.
So as we read God's word and begin to see things in it that seem to be contrary to what we are doing in our everyday life, we then realize that if there is to be any Virtue about us, that we must then yield to the convicts that are set forth in Gods Word that do indeed call for us to change and to be conformed to what Gods word say we should be. This my friends takes us back to the very beginning of our salvation thru Christ Jesus. Being that we must be willing to freely accept what the Bible says the manner of person we ought to be in order to be a Christian.
Virtue, the willingness of a person to, of his own free will, be conformed to the likeness of Jesus Christ.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ROMANS 8
¶ And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. |
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. |
Moreover, whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. |
¶ What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? |
He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? |
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So my friends remember, when everything seems to be going wrong............. maybe the Lord is giving you a great opportunity to display some Virtue according to Christ.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Father, I pray that all who have read this today would be able to apply your word to themselves for the opportunity to change and be conformed to your word. For Lord I know that many times from my own experience of being convicted by your Word, that it is not always a joyful situation being convicted, though it is always joyous after I do submit to your correction.
AMEN!!!
