Humility - HUMIL'ITY, n. [L. humilitas.] 1. In ethics, freedom from pride and arrogance; humbleness of mind; a modest estimate of one's own worth. In theology, humility consists in lowliness of mind; a deep sense of one's own unworthiness in the sight of God, self-abasement, penitence for sin, and submission to the divine will. Before honor is humility. Prov 15.
Well, last week we discussed about getting and being saved. This week I thought we would talk about what our frame of mind should be in with a little more detail as outlined by the Webster's 1st edition dictionary. I like to use it because as times change so does the meanings of words. But in order to understand what the bible says I thought it better to stick with the original dictionary. My reason of thinking is also based on the fact that Noah Webster knew the bible, chapter and verse. You see by our human design we are creatures of habit and all the things we do and believe are because of what we see and have been taught by those of influence over us. Whether it was a parent, a brother or sister, teacher, coach, and the list goes on and on. But I think you get the idea.
The bible talks in Romans, Rom 1:20 - "For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:" Keeping this scripture in mind we know that the bible is indeed true.
Now back to my thought of being creatures of habit, you can now begin to see why I gave you the meanings of , Humility, Faith, and Will. Because of our having a way of life before being introduced to Jesus Christ. We need to understand humility in order to know that it is all up to our own decision making ability to accept who Christ is and that without him we can't make heaven our home. So when we acknowledge that we are unworthy in the sight of God because of our sin, and that we willingly make the decision to follow and accept Jesus Christ for who he is based on what God says. And that it must be done by faith.
Now looking back at what I said, do you now see how humility, faith, and our will, effect everything we do in our walk with the Lord. How we have to address our spiritual life with the Lord, in recognizing our inability to even perceive the things of God without looking to him always for the direction we need in our life.
According to the New Testament:
Philippians 2:8 - "And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross"
WOW, you mean even Jesus had to be humble before God?
(Yup, human form remember?)
Who are we then NOT to be humble and obedient to yield to the Spirit of Gods convictions which come to us by way of the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit and who, according to the bible, will convict us of our sin?
(Get the point yet? If even Jesus did it while in human form, how can we not?)
John 16:8 "And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment"
Anyone confused yet?
Good , glad that the Lord has everything clear in your mind for you.
The run down,
The reason I say that it must be without the influence of others is that God is the one who draws us by his Love, and the Holy Ghost( Spirit ) convicts us of our sin, and Jesus Christ's sacrifice saves us. It is a personal relationship with God. We can fellowship together with others, praise and worship with others, and even be in a church service with others when we give our life to Christ, but the actual act of commitment must be done by you, in your own heart, just between you and God. There is no other way.
Hey everyone, I love you with the love of the Lord, and God Bless each and every one of you.
Lord Jesus I prey for each person who reads these words, that they will have complete understanding of each and every thought that you gave me to type ( 1 finger at a time ). Amen
Till Next Time,
Willy
